Divergent Futures is an independent studio and channel network. It makes three things: video and streams about subjects worth taking seriously, writing that goes deeper than a video can, and software — mostly the tools needed to make the first two, released openly because someone else probably needs them too.

Why four channels instead of one

Because the audiences aren't the same, and pretending they are does all of them a disservice. Someone here for orbital life-support engineering isn't necessarily here for an honest account of autistic burnout, and neither of them signed up for chapter drafts of a novel. Splitting them means each one can go as deep as it needs to without apologising.

What they share is a method, not a topic: state the problem without flinching, follow the actual pathway out of it, and end somewhere a person can stand.

Why the work is public before it's finished

Most of what's on the projects page was built to solve a problem in the making of the channels — a content system, a stream overlay, a research pipeline. Publishing them early is partly generosity and mostly discipline: a thing you intend to show other people gets built more honestly than a thing that stays on your own machine.

The software lives on GitHub, and the open-hardware work — trailers, buses, energy systems — lives in its own organisation under reciprocal licences, so improvements come back. This site exists because a repository is a terrible front door for anyone who isn't an engineer.

What you won't find here

• Trackers, ad networks, or a cookie banner. There's nothing to consent to.
• Numbers presented with more confidence than the source supports.
• Anything AI-generated presented as first-hand reporting.
